Here’s a wild fact: The AC Cobra 427 was so fast that it earned the title of the “fastest street-legal car in the world” in the 1960s. In 1964, a special modified version of the Cobra, called the Cobra 427 Super Snake, was built by Carroll Shelby himself. Only two were ever made, and one of them was built specifically for Shelby’s personal use. This Super Snake packed twin superchargers and could produce around 800 horsepower, a monstrous figure for its time. Shelby once claimed he got a speeding ticket driving it—at 190 mph on a public road!
